ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on developing curriculum for Master of Public Administration/Affairs programs. The chapter includes a description of NASPAA’s current accreditation standards that are related to curriculum design. The chapter discusses the progression programs can use from the strategic planning process to the development of a mission, goals, and learning objectives. Course design and how it fits within the mission of the program is discussed using Bloom’s Taxonomy to demonstrate how courses build upon each other to higher-order learning. Various types of assignments and assessment mechanisms to provide learning feedback to instructors and MPA faculty are briefly discussed. The chapter then relates Internet resources that are available to MPA programs to better help them design their curricula and courses. The resources help faculty to link the course subject matter of different types of courses to NASPAA’s universal competencies.
