ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the conduction, convection, and radiation modes of heat transfer. Following an introduction into the physical phenomena of each form of heat transfer, basic experimental examples for each mode of heat transfer are shown. This chapter serves as the foundation for this text, introducing the reader to basic principles for various heat transfer measurements. The basic experimental setups presented in this chapter provide the reader with an overview of how experiments should be designed, constructed, and completed. In addition, from the experiments, sample results are provided for the readers. These basic experiments are described in greater detail in the following chapters.
