ABSTRACT
This chapter explains how the coding scheme can be stored in the computer. It shows how students can save the entered data. Before they begin the analysis, students must first check if they have made any typing errors and if there is sufficient variation of data. students' data can best be entered numerically, that is as a set of figures. The computer numbers the variables in the order in which students enter them. In many cases, this could be sufficient for their requirements. The output from such data may however be difficult to interpret, especially when their research involves several variables. The chapter discusses students can enter the coding scheme into SPSS by means of the “Variable View” tab in the bottom left corner. In older versions of SPSS, the variable characteristics must be entered horizontally, along a single row. Students can begin with the first row for the first variable.
