ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the difference between environmental logistics and reverse logistics, and intention and the contents of the packaging covenant. Recycling is the goal of reverse logistics: collection, processing, and transport of products such, that recycling is possible. Environmental logistics Reverse logistics includes the control of the logistics processes in the collection, transport, and processing of used goods and packaging. Reverse logistics and Environmental logistics aims to optimize the management of the business, taking into account the constraints, wishes and requirements concerning the environment and logistics, from the point of view of the government and from the market. The packaging covenant is the direct interface between reverse logistics and packaging. The manufacturer is held responsible for the product at the waste phase of its life cycle. The objectives of a packaging covenant can be summarized in six points: Quantitative prevention, Qualitative prevention, Product reuse, Material reuse, Incineration and Dumping.
