ABSTRACT

Value stream mapping is a method of mapping out the whole value stream of an enterprise, starting with the order from the customer up to and including the order from the supplier. Initially, with value-stream mapping it was of mapping out the whole value and where waste occurred in the production process. Value stream mapping maps out the processes of an enterprise to ensure that the customers’ wishes can be realised. In the mapping out, important indicators are shown that affect the performance of the processes. Every enterprise subdivides the products or services it supplies to its customers into groups. Because these groups often make use of the same resources, value stream mapping is applied at group level. Waste such as over-production, waiting times, resetting times and undermanning of personnel are mapped out with the aid of value stream mapping. Analysis of the value stream can only be accomplished if there is sufficient data present.
