ABSTRACT

Organisational climate is related to the perception and experience of characteristics of the organisation, such as the organisation and work environment. The organisational climate gives a description of the extent to which organisational characteristics are experienced. The organisational climate is described on the basis of two dimensions. Both dimensions are typified by two competing values: the first dimension can be characterised by a focus on the individuals in the organisation versus a focus on the organisation; and the second dimension has the extremes: focus on flexibility versus focus on control. The combination of these two dimensions produces four types of organisational climate: supportiveness, respect for the rules, goal orientation and information flow, and innovation. The enterprise obtains insight into which aspects they emphasise and, as a result, which processes in the enterprise should receive the most attention.
