ABSTRACT

Whenever the topic of digital transformation comes up, one hears the admonition to establish a data strategy, which invariably conflates data and technology together. A profitable data strategy is about a firm’s data assets and the means of turning them into investment vehicles. The knowledge spectrum says nothing about the nature of the underlying data, which is required to set up the mechanics, mechanisms, and machine infrastructure to manage them. The Node is a symbolic representation of the unit transformation process performed at that location to transform the data inputs arriving to it into data outputs to be transmitted outward across the network. The advent of the personal computer in the late 1970s heralded a phantasmagorical explosion of forms of information. The expression “structured data” is used to describe a record located in a fixed field within a pre-defined structure of a file, with contents that are readily accessible and interpreted.
