ABSTRACT

This chapter describes suggestions and instructions on how to write a good report. The advantage of a written report over an oral presentation is that the subject can be treated in much greater detail and those interested in the subject have a tangible source to refer back to. All the details on the cover are repeated on the title page. It may also include such things as a copyright statement or in the case of a confidential or classified report, a remark about limited distribution. A very large report could be divided up into chapters, sections and so on. Each section should be comparable in level and subsections/main headings should be logical subdivisions of the chapters/sections. Documents that would make a text difficult to read if they were included – such as complicated drawings, examples, detailed descriptions – should be added as an appendix.
