ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses different types of organizations, leadership and the roles played by employees. Companies are organized in different ways. A good way to clarify the organizational method is to draw an organizational chart. Some large organizations have designated professional project leaders, who work continuously on projects, but are often not an expert in the project subject matter, rather skilled project managers. Steering committees are often established when several related projects take place simultaneously. A steering committee consists of the sponsor’s representative – such as a member of the board of directors – and the project managers of the various projects. A project group is made up of people who have been brought together because of their particular capacities, expertise and aptitude. One or more working groups can be established within the project group.
