ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will look carefully at the enclave. Korean Chinese in South Korea, whose legal status was stable and had guaranteed economic autonomy, chose their living area according to their economic status. They settled in an area in Seoul with low real estate prices and convenient transportation. The similar economic classes concentrated in the Southwestern part created a particular economic market that, although similar to the general Korean market, had special demands. Korean Chinese with business experience noticed this, and they became the enclave entrepreneurs. The enclave provided the entrepreneurs with a stable supply of both labour and consumers, and was their economic/class foundation.
