ABSTRACT

Lukas Pairon studied philosophy and human sciences at a private university in Lugano, Switzerland, and later obtained a master’s in educational science (specialising in the politics of education) at the Universite Paris VIII-Vincennes. He received his PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the University of Ghent in 2019. In 1985, he changed careers to become the artistic director of the contemporary music and dance programmes of the Flanders Festival1 and two years later co-founded Walpurgis with singer Judith Vindevogel. In 2005, he also founded the humanitarian organisation Music Fund which supports music schools in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean through donations of musical instruments and training programmes for technicians able to repair them. He is since 2017 also a co-founder and director of SIMM, the international research platform focusing on research on the possible social impacts of music-making.
