ABSTRACT

Academic research is often misconstrued or ignored by reactive groups, such as the Alt-Right, to substantiate agendas of oppression and hegemony. In the case of transgender communities, the available research is misrepresented to justify discrimination, violence and policies against trans people—practices that further damage an already susceptible population. This essay aims to identify prevalent misinformation spread about transgender biology as well as tactics used to debase current research on trans populations and provide suggestions on how to effectively wield a compendium of data on transgender neurophysiology that supersedes the oppressive rhetoric emerging from Alt-Right sources.
