ABSTRACT

Our intention was that the current text would serve as “lines in the sand” from which to develop strategic action plans for reducing or eliminating Relative Age Effects (RAEs) in sport. In this concluding chapter, we draw conclusions based on our current understanding of RAEs and emphasize key areas where future work is needed. While prior work has largely allowed “serendipity” to reveal contexts where RAEs are present, it is now time for clear action, including testing hypotheses to understand the mechanisms driving these effects, challenging solutions to determine their feasibility, and understanding the long-term implications of relative age biases.
