ABSTRACT

Very few patients present with abnormal gait. It is more often noticed by the general practitioner while the patient's complaint is usually a manifestation of the gait. This chapter presents a discussion on the causes, diagnosis, and investigation of general physical symptoms in patients. It provides a general practitioner overview, differential diagnosis, possible investigations, and top tips for dealing with general physical symptoms. The symptoms discussed are abnormal gait in adults, abnormal movements, back pain, episodic loss of consciousness, excessive sweating, flushing, infertility, jaundice in adults, itching, prolonged fever, tiredness, tremor, and weight loss. The differential diagnosis includes common, occasional, and rare causes of the symptoms.
