ABSTRACT

Digital technologies today are emerging at a rapid pace and are transforming our lifestyle to an unimaginable extent. Tasks that seemed impossible ten years ago can now be done by simply pressing one button; this emerging technology has its impacts on the labour market. This chapter tries to analyse the emergence of the concept of outsourcing as a result of the Third Industrial Revolution and its positive and negative impacts on the Indian labour market. Furthermore, the chapter throws light upon the Fourth Industrial Revolution and distinguishes it from the prior industrial revolutions. The chapter tries to link the emergence of automated technologies to displacement of existing jobs and concludes by stating the impact of such destructive revolution on the various sectors in the Indian Labour Market.
