ABSTRACT
Ecosystems are the invariable context of life on Earth. What is the place of ecosystems as seen in science and in ethics? How does economics, seeking sustainable growth, relate to sustaining ecosystems. What is the place of wilderness, absent humans, in environmental conservation? Do humans know nature as found, constructed, re-constructed? How do we set environmental policies seeking ecosystem management? Perhaps nature is always lingering around, a once and future nature?
