ABSTRACT

No matter what industry or the type of business an organization is engaged in they must establish a corporate compliance process. A compliance structure or profile simply refers to identifying the laws and regulations that must be adhered to and the road map for ensuring compliance with applicable laws. Regulatory compliance can range from those that apply to people management from the viewpoint of human resource management, safety and health of workers while performing work, to protection of the environment. Two key organizational attributes that must be considered when designing a compliance culture are the mission of the company and the type of organization system or structure that will be needed to ensure compliance. The compliance structure and the mission of the company must be in alignment to achieve regulatory compliance and avoid noncompliance; protect the company and employees from hazards; and the company from financial penalties.
