ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I introduce the motivation for developing an ethics of philanthropy since acts of philanthropy have a major impact on people and societies. I look at various ways by which the question of ethics enters philanthropy. After introducing ethics in an introductory manner, the chapter goes on to describe specific ethical challenges to philanthropy in India.
