ABSTRACT

A hypnotherapy session is something a child should look forward to, not something they feel is a chore or something they have to do because their parents want them to attend. In reality this should not happen if the hypnotherapist has done sufficient preparation work in talking with the parents before an appointment is booked and then does a thorough assessment when meeting with the child for the first time. Hypnotherapy will only work if the child wants to participate and work on something. It can be the case that a parent sees something (e.g. a behaviour like sucking a thumb) as a problem, but the child does not see it in the same way. A hypnotherapy session should be fun but the child has to realise some work does need to be undertaken too.
