ABSTRACT

The conformation of a structure refers to its goodness-of-fit and to its context during coupling (cf. Chapter 9). A structure in optimal conformation functions at maximum efficiency. A structure is in suboptimal conformation when there is a discrepancy between its form and that of its context during the coupling. When such discrepancies occur, in the context of an intention to couple, free energy is shunted from the general energy pool of the organism as a whole to that particular structure, thereby raising it from its ground state to an active state.
