ABSTRACT

Program evaluations can tell us what to evaluate and why it matters. If we look at stream locations and desired conditions, we can see where evaluations build narratives around health equity. This chapter begins with an overview of stream locations, SDOH pathways, and potential indicators for program evaluation. Next, readers learn from 12 different program evaluation examples that include a SDOH component. Program examples range from addressing racial inequalities to changes in Medicaid policies to support SDOH efforts. Examples of social support, community cohesion, and relationships between these and risk behaviors are explored. Chapter 6 concludes with a recap of programs presented, and recommendations for evaluators as they begin focusing on SDOH.
