ABSTRACT

The main assumption states that in order to achieve organizational reliability, maintaining proper performance is becoming harder, and it seems to no longer be enough for the long-term sustainability of the organization. The contemporary world of changes, in which organizations are forced to operate, creates for them more and more demanding conditions, disturbing their performance. The present understanding allows to consider organizational reliability only from the point of view of unusual situations, for example high-reliability organizations, which are aimed at avoiding accidents and catastrophic events. Moreover, it seems that IT may have a growing potential to influence reliability of the organization as a whole. Thus, the need to maintain reliability and reduce the number of those errors is nowadays an important step for every organization for ensuring sustainable organizational performance and staying in the market. The chapter also provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
