ABSTRACT

Numerous examples of historical data indicate that one reflects upon his/her actions if there is a real possibility of retaliation on the victims’ side. This was the case in Nazi Germany, where anti-Hitler movements intensified following a series of defeats on the Eastern front (i.e., when the possibility of retaliation from the losing side became more real). Does a similar principle apply to the Milgram experiment? What happens when we tell the subject that he/she will be the teacher NOW but that the roles will be reversed LATER?
