ABSTRACT

The conclusions discuss the process of globalization, relating it back to power politics. The tremendous cost of war could be the main cause of peace and stability. A return to realpolitik may be the solution. More independence in the economy, as opposed to interdependence and dependence, may also serve to create a more peaceful world. This trend may be reflected by the changes in US foreign policy under President Donald Trump. Increased inequality because of the hollowing out of the American economy may have led to his election. The United States’ withdrawal from the system may provide an opportunity for Chinese expansion.
