ABSTRACT
From the outset, the social sciences have been roiled by disputes on Method. Even today, the best known Methodenstreit is that which took place in economics and then extended to the historical and social sciences between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, chiefly in Germany. Recurrently, these disputes revolve around the three main forms of knowledge that can apply in the investigation of social reality.
