ABSTRACT

The overall drive is to synchronize employee working hours with operational demands. This has the purpose of having people present when they are needed, and not present when they are not needed. From the employee's point of view therefore, the hours should be long enough and regular enough to enable a sufficient amount of work to be carried out to give feelings of satisfaction and achievement. From employer's point of view, the issue is the ability to integrate this with frequency, regularity, length of work period that the employee is present and the output that is required, feasible or achievable. People on different hours and patterns of work have to be integrated with one another so that an effective working environment and relationship is created. Whatever the nature or patterns of work, everyone works better in a clean, comfortable and wholesome environment. When outsiders and subcontractors are used they should conform to required organization norms, patterns of behaviour and conduct.
