ABSTRACT
As Marx matured intellectually, he became increasingly interested in the analysis and critique of the capitalist economic system and in the projection of its early demise due to the many problems that beset it. Specifically, he called for "proletarian revolutions" in the most advanced capitalist countries, where the proletariat is numerous-name ly, Britain, France, Germany, and the United States. Marx expected these revolutions eventually to spread to engulf the entire globe. Marx himself laid down the principle that theory or ideology is "a guide to action"-that is, theory must be tested in reality and adjusted to reality. Now, Marx's own writing focused on the most advanced capitalist countries of his time: Britain, France, Germany, and the United States.
