ABSTRACT

Acupuncture is the traditional Chinese practice of puncturing the skin in precise locations with fine needles to cure disease or to relieve pain. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago and is based on Taoist philosophy. It aims to balance the energy meridians to allow the body to heal itself. The Alexander technique was developed in the 1890s by F. M. Alexander, an Australian actor. Practitioners use gentle touch and observation to change the body’s patterns of movement. A goal is reeducating the patient to change poor habits of coordination. Practitioners of the technique believe habits of excessive tension and inefficient coordination affect how one feels and thinks. The technique focuses on correct posture and the correct way to lift objects. AromaWeb features recipes, book reviews, articles, and information on aromatherapy and the use of essential oils.
