ABSTRACT

When children first learn to write, they produce simple sentences with a single idea in each. Later, they learn to combine these single-idea units into richer sentences showing more relationships between ideas. Usually they begin by using coordinating conjunctions to form compound sentences and then progress to using subordinating conjunctions in complex sentences. Advanced writers use such sentences with great skill in communicating ideas and conveying impressions. You can also use these sentence patterns to enrich your writing.
