ABSTRACT
Taking standardized tests is part of moving from the academic minor leagues to the major leagues with a corresponding improvement in potential income. Tests are required for admission and placement at many colleges and then later for admission to law, medical, or graduate school. Large scale testing is not limited to America. In Japan, England, and other countries, test scores play an even more decisive role in determining a young person’s educational opportunities.
