ABSTRACT
The massive network of computers, servers, and information is bringing additional rapid change to the news research landscape on a daily basis. If a news researcher or information professional can manage that process in a manner that permits others in the newsroom to creatively add value to the newsroom’s product, news coverage, their work has value to the company. In addition to individuals with library science credentials, some news researchers come to their work through journalism or liberal arts education. Many news researchers, like most copy editors and general assignment reporters, think of themselves as generalists or as newsroom renaissance persons. Some news researchers have become programmers by taking on the responsibilities for developing limited access in-house HTML-based World Wide Web sites commonly known as intranets. Perhaps the teaching skills of news researchers that are most in demand in newsrooms are those involving the World Wide Web and Internet.
