ABSTRACT

Team coaches need to be most concerned with how to complete the day-to-day work of the team. They are often in the work trenches themselves and have little time to worry about the facilitative role or the management role of the team leader. N. Katz convincingly argued that the coach role is distinctive from the management role in team performance. This chapter describes each of the coaching roles in detail and provides ideas about how to strengthen those roles within our team. This role emphasizes the importance that each and every team member understands and adopts the short-, mid-, and long-term team goals. An organization that expects their coaches to identify and satisfy the career development aspirations of their teams is an organization that people will want to work for. Coaches play a key linking pin role in developing trust in the organization.
