ABSTRACT

This chapter reports three cross-cultural case studies. The first school case is a Central American girl, who immigrated to Milan, Italy at the age of seven with her parents. The second school case is an Argentinean girl who was born and lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The third is a clinical case of a girl born and raised in Puerto Rico. In summary, Maria’s personality profile indicates that she was experiencing difficulties interacting with new peers in a foreign country. To counteract her difficulties, Maria relied on a “Pollyannaish” outlook and tended to modify her perceptions to fit her needs, including inadequate delay of gratification. Abigail showed difficulty in self-regulating and relating to her peers, whom she may attempt to ingratiate in order to obtain acceptance. Analysis of the results of the Affective Functions showed an extremely high score in “Sad” with high average scores in “Angry” and “Fearful.”.
