ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the clinical utility of Tell-Me-A-Story (TEMAS) with two youngsters. The first study reports the case of a 12-year-old sexually abusing youngster; this protocol is analyzed both psychometrically and clinically because it falls within the normative sample of the TEMAS test. The second case, a 16-year-old sexually abusing adolescent, is only analyzed clinically because it falls outside the TEMAS normative group. In the treatment of sex offenders, an instrument that provides a broad range of psychological data, as well as a culturally competent, perspective, tends to provide more complete, relevant, and significant psychological information. Myron achieved a Full Scale IQ of 98 (45th percentile), Verbal IQ of 99 (47th percentile), and a Performance IQ of 98 (45th percentile) on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition. Overall, this placed him within the Average range of intellectual functioning for children his age. With youngsters, standard assessment procedures require that the clinician come armed with all corroborating information available.
