ABSTRACT

Many attempts have been made to reduce the time spent making drawings. For many years manufacturing companies have devised schemes to reduce line drawing time while continuing to convey adequate design data to manufacturing. With the advent of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), further impetus to reduced drafting time has become a significant goal. The principle of using family drawings holds great promise for achieving this increased productivity. It is the purpose of this chapter to explain the principles of family drawings, and suggest some guidelines for developing them.
