ABSTRACT

The starting point for all design work is with the definition of the design requirements. Although this seems elementary, it is surprising how little visibility this phase of design often receives. Design engineers routinely consider and follow requirements from many sources, but there is seldom a record which shows what the requirements are, where they originated, or why they are important. This limited visibility makes it difficult to verify if the necessary requirements have been considered and whether or not there are excesses or omissions that should be resolved,
