ABSTRACT

The successful installation of any pump has two phases: design and physically putting the equipment in place. Noise is an increasingly important consideration in pump installations. Pump selection, installation, and operation all have a bearing on the end result. The installation procedure set out below is of necessity general. It deals with horizontal, separately coupled pumps, since that configuration is the most common and they are among the most difficult to install. Where the equipment differs, use the general procedure as far as it is applicable but be sure to obtain and follow the manufacturer’s specific instructions. Grout the foundation bolts, where applicable, taking care not to grout inside the bolt sleeve. Level the baseplate. This is one of the most important steps in equipment installation, yet it is frequently overlooked. Failure to level the baseplate can make alignment difficult or impossible to achieve, and the difficulty usually extends beyond installation.
