ABSTRACT

The aim of training is to create an attitude of fire safety in the facility and recognition by all employees that protecting the facility from fire also protects their lives and livelihood. Training should be aimed at equipping people to perform the duties and functions necessary to accomplish the job. The training objectives should be a description of the performance reader want trainees to exhibit before considering them competent. The objective describes the intended result of training, rather than the process of training. Training should be provided annually in the use of fire extinguishers for different classes of fire and hands-on training in their operation should be provided. Training should include simulated fire situations including “wet drills” and, when feasible, extinguishment of actual mock fires. The training program should be in writing, and a manual or handbook is useful to describe the job assignments, schedules, facility hazards, equipment, and emergency action procedures.
