ABSTRACT

The most efficient combinations for liquid chromatography proved to be those with mass spectrometry and with spectrometry in the ultraviolet and visible regions of the spectrum (UV/VIS) and in the infrared region of the spectrum. The definitive spectrometric methods Fourier transformation of spectra and UV/VIS are in a rapidly moving stage of apparatus development and application. The combination of microcolumn chromatography with spectral methods has a number of additional advantages. It eliminates damaging of the sample between individual analytic steps, and the trace analysis contamination of the sample by the laboratory environment or personnel is prevented. The advantage of the application of microcolumns in combination with mass spectrometer become evident especially when the effluent directly enters the ion source. The effluent is not simply evaporated at the column outlet. Evaporation causes cooling of the column outlet.
