ABSTRACT

There are many integrated library systems and related programs available that work on current popular microcomputers. This chapter presents software that performs either those functions commonly part of larger multiuser integrated library systems or some specialized function often needed in a library. A competitor to MS-DOS/Microsoft Windows combination of single-user, multitasking system is IBM’s OS/2. This system will run MS-DOS programs in a compatible window as does Microsoft Windows. Multiple library databases are supported, including loading of LC or National Library of Canada Machine Readable Cataloging Record tapes. This is the platform for producing a CD-ROM catalog or operating the online catalog from a central bibliographic database. This integrated library system offers excellent functionality coupled with some cost-lowering options such as the CD-ROM catalog, designed to minimize the server storage needed. Cross-references produce the actual bibliographic record when the enter key is pressed.
