ABSTRACT
In this chapter we wish to discuss the behavior of the prime numbers. In the first section we prove some elementary results about the distribution of the prime numbers. The next section is devoted to the proof of the prime number theorem. We then prove Dirichlet’s theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions. The last two sections are devoted to the applications of the prime number theorem to the study of arithmetic functions.
