ABSTRACT

Most artifacts on the radiographic films are the result of improper film handling in the darkroom or problems with the processor. If the film is carelessly handled in the darkroom, the base of the film may be crinkled. Save it to be used as a cleaning film or process it. The most common artifact on films is the crinkle mark. It is a crescent-shaped mark that results from bending the emulsion during loading or unloading of the film. Light leaks in the darkroom or a faulty safelight can cause fog on the film. If the film is not completely in the processor, and the light is turned on or the darkroom door opened, an image of the entrance rollers will appear on the film. The potential of light exposure to the unexposed film because the top is left off the box and the film bin opened in white light must also be considered.
