ABSTRACT

The chapter describes the specific modeling technique that has found wide application in the simulation development community and has many characteristics in common with other popular modeling protocols. IDEF is composed of three related sets of modeling protocols. IDEF1X is often used for the purpose of data modeling and database design, but has also been used for the purpose of enterprise integration and information management. Several additional analyses of the issues associated with the evaluation of random number generators are given in this chapter. There are certainly hundreds, and perhaps many more, distinct development methodologies in the literature. Each one purports to enjoy an advantage of some sort with respect to the development process. Validation is the process which establishes the extent to which a model does (or does not) acceptably represent the phenomenon of interest. Verification of a simulation is the process of assessing the degree to which the implementation transforms inputs into outputs as specified by the model.
