ABSTRACT

Mr. James Kreissl has stated that pressure sewers should only be considered with properly conceived management arrangements. Failure to do so could seriously limit the effectiveness of the pressure sewer system. It is therefore recommended that the design of any pressure sewer system include provisions for an operating authority as well as a plan for the operation and maintenance of the system. It is generally recommended that pressure sewer systems be owned, operated, and maintained by a sewer district that would have the authority to assess monthly sewer charges, and the capability to provide service and maintenance. The most important consideration in installing an effluent pressure sewer system, next to its cost effectiveness, is the establishment of an effective long-term operation and maintenance program. Operation and maintenance of a pressure sewer system is two faceted: operation and maintenance for each onsite pressurization unit; and operation and maintenance of the pressure mains.
