ABSTRACT
An asbestos abatement project is basically a construction project with many of the components used in demolition and renovation work. The process often starts with the owner engaging the services of an engineer to determine the project requirements and preparing a set of bidding and contract documents containing drawings and specifications, issued for competitive bidding. The unique and dangerous situations confronting fire fighters during such operations require that a complete exchange of pertinent information be established and continued during the life of the project. Detachment between temporary structures, adequate temporary fire protection fixed systems, and/or portable equipment, shall be provided as required by the authority having jurisdiction. The owner shall designate a person to be responsible for the fire prevention program and for ensuring that it is carried out to completion of the project. A suitable location at the site shall be designated as a command post and provided with plans, emergency information, keys, communication, and equipment, as needed.
