ABSTRACT

Like Mark, Jody went straight into self-directed, healing play. The metaphors were equally strong, though her style was simpler. She was only three years old. Her closest playmate had been run over by a car when she suddenly ran on to the road to retrieve a ball. Several children were present, but Jody was the only one who actually saw the wheels go over her little playmate’s head. She heard it crack. Her behaviour since the accident had been wildly hyperactive and her parents brought her to me for help. She was unable to accept her friend’s death and kept talking as if she expected her to come and play.
