ABSTRACT
This chapter overviews the wide variety of products and systems being developed by Korean companies. The Information Communications Processing System was developed to act as a gateway for information services. Most major systems to be used in constructing the information superhighway in Korea will be under development until 1998. The goal of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute’s time division switching system-10 Integrated services digital network project is to develop a switching system that can accommodate various non-voice services and advanced switching technologies for the next-generation broadband switches. The inadequate capacity of the analog cellular mobile system requires deployment of a digital cellular mobile system. The objectives of Personal communications services (PCS) are ease of use, choice of price, and means of communicating with anyone, anytime, anywhere — whether at work, at home, or on the move. Several countries have implemented PCS systems of their own to preempt the PCS markets.
