ABSTRACT

The Republic of Korea has catapulted itself into the role of a leading player in the global electronics industry. Korean electronics companies are the major DRAM suppliers in the world. The success of the Korean electronics industry is generally attributed by the nation’s four leading chaebols to the foresight of company founders and to the sound strategy and aggressive and astute work of their executives. Government assistance and support has played a significant role in preparing the Korean electronics industry for the 21st Century. Korea’s public and private universities and institutes are an integral part of the striking and rapid growth of the country’s electronics industry. The Korean government is attempting to assist small and emerging companies through organizations like the Korean Electronics Technology Institute, set up by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. Korea has built and is continuing to build a “stand-alone” capability in a broad range of electronics technologies.
