ABSTRACT

With no research skills and little scholarly background, team members plundered the libraries for books about women. They learned to cut through the biases of history which usually described, not the woman’s achievements, but her physical attributes and the men in her life. The research team gradually developed its skills… I watched them all undergo a process very similar to my own: As they learned about their history as women, their sense of themselves changed. Their initial lack of confidence was replaced by an understanding of their historic circumstances and a determination to share the information they were finding with other women.
