ABSTRACT

Timothy Leary’s name appears in a mass-circulation magazine or two every week. His records are being rushed to outlets all over the country. He turns out introductions to other people’s books the way the Japanese produce tin Statues of Liberty. Currently, he’s writing his memoirs. In a white shirt, white jeans, and white sneakers, he brings his calm charisma to The Merv Griffin Show. He holds press conferences at the Advertising Club on Park Avenue. And, if half the rumors are true, he turns on doctors, lawyers, publishers, and— by his own implication—Presidents-to-be. The government is Leary’s most generous patron; it showers him with publicity. Now that he swings with the beautiful people, the feds are helping Leary reach the folks who guzzle beer. Leary’s associates, Jackie Cassen and Rudi Stern, took five months to create the visuals.
